Southport is home to the UK's highest concentration of championship links courses and is England's Golfing Capital on England's Golf Coast.

Royal Birkdale was once again delighted to host The Open Championship which returned in July 2008 and the ever popular Ricoh Women’s British Open in 2010, but Southport's reputation for being England's Golfing Capital is not just based on Royal Birkdale’s rugged links.

It boasts another five championship standard courses within 15 minutes drive from the Ambassador Townhouse, and a sixth only half an hour away. Hillside is widely thought to rival neighbour Royal Birkdale with its demanding layout, while Hesketh, Southport & Ainsdale, Formby, Formby Hall and West Lancashire Golf Clubs are all superb courses providing a challenge to the most accomplished golfer.

Further along the coast, we find Royal Liverpool to the south and Royal Lytham & St Annes to the north. Together, the three world-renowned Royal Links courses have hosted the Open Championship in excess of 30 times since 1897.
